Should I Quit My Job And Become An Entrepreneur

Should I Quit My Job And Become An Entrepreneur?

I found myself asking that exact question one day at work.

The job wasn’t bad.

In fact it paid well and most of the time I enjoyed it.

But…

I had been doing it for a decade and was feeling burned out.

The travel was extreme and left me little time for a social life.

And my boss knew less about my job than I did.

Which created conflicts at times.

Ready or not I was day dreaming of becoming my own boss.

Although I had never worked as an entrepreneur.

I knew many people that did.

They always said it wasn’t easy, but if you really want to be your own boss you just need to put in the hard work and never give up.

After some planning and preparation I decided to make the leap.

And become self employed.

Some of my friends tried to talk me out of it.

Especially the ones that had failed at it themselves in the past.

They said it’s too hard!

Most people fail!

Maybe you should rethink this…

That was many years ago now.

Long story short …

Yes, it was hard.

I failed a lot.

Yes, I even did some rethinking.

But I never gave up.

And consider it one of the best things I ever did.

What Does It Take To Be An Entrepreneur?

Below are some tips to help you decide is becoming an entrepreneur is right for you:

Number 1

You enjoy taking risks – There are no certainties and you have to take on a lot more risks than the average person.

For most this is a deal breaker.

Does the risk out weigh the reward?

Each day you will be taking calculated risks that can make or break your business.

You are the boss so you have no one to blame except your self for failures.

On the flip side you get all the credit for your successes too.

If you become good at minimizing your risks you can do very well as an entrepreneur.

Number 2

You’re A Natural Leader – executing your ideas and delegating tasks will be something you enjoy and thrive on.

Seeing a project through to completion making your dream a reality will also be where you leave others in the dust.

There is a lot of competition and you won’t let that stop you from becoming the best of the bunch.

If you don’t need someone directing you to get things done, but rather find yourself in leadership positions you could have what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

As an entrepreneur, you don’t need a boss or someone telling you what to do.

In fact, you might be one of those people that say I can do that better on my own.

Number 3

You Enjoy Learning – If you love to read and consistently learn new information that’s a good sign that you would enjoy being an entrepreneur.

Because you will have to learn almost everything on your own.

Fortunately, we live in the information age, and just about anything you would ever want to know is at your fingertips.

As you grow in your business there will be a lot of tasks that you will be responsible for and only you to make sure it gets accomplished.

Finding the answers to problems will be a way of life and you won’t mind solving problems and learning solutions on any given day.

In fact, you actually enjoy this as an additional challenge that makes you feel good to know that you did it on your own.

Number 4

You don’t mind working alone – As an entrepreneur, you will be spending a lot of time working alone.

At least when you are getting stated.

If you rather work in a group and like working around a large group of people you might feel lonely and the isolation could get to you.

This will require a lot of self-motivation and determination to work through tasks without guidance or interaction from others.

You may have to work long days and nights that can keep you away from the things you love and by yourself till you complete what needs to be done.

Number 5

You Value Your Time – This was a biggie for me!

I always hated sitting at a desk waiting out the clock or needing to work a certain amount of hours because I had to put in my 40 hours.

Even worse than that… having to work overtime!

No Thanks… I value my time and if you do as well this could be a great reason for you to become an entrepreneur.

You are the type of person that is good with your time and doesn’t waste it.

If you motto is time is money… You’re on the right track.

Valuing your time is important.

Time is one thing you can never get back.

If this all sounds good to you then you probably have what it takes to become your own boss.

I always like the saying ” A Year From Now You’ll Wish You Had Started Today”

Time is passing by and you might as well be doing something you enjoy that is building the life you want.

Why Entrepreneurs Quit

When I was trying to decide if I should i quit my job and become an entrepreneur.

Another question came to mind.

Why do entrepreneurs quit?

Below Are Some Reasons Entrepreneurs Give Up:

#1. Negative Thinking

I can’t stress enough how important it is to have the right mind set.

If you tend to be a pessimist entrepreneurship is not gonna be easy for you.

There are a lot of things that can go wrong.

Especially in the beginning.

And you will be learning a lot along the way.

Best advice I can give on this is to ignore the naysayers.

Work hard and remember why you started in the first place.

And know your why.

My why was that I absolutely hated working for someone else.

It made me feel like a slave.

And I hated trading my time for money.

#2. Not Prepared Financially

There are so many ways to make money today.

That don’t require clocking in.

Before you quit your job.

You should be prepared to have enough money to support you and your business.

How much you will need will depend on your expenses for you and your business.

And how fast you can expect to grow your business to a level if can sustain you financially.

There is an article from CNBC that can help you with this more here.

#3. Your Social Life Interferes

When you work for someone else scheduling time for social activities can be easier.

The people you want to be with most can make it difficult for you to complete your important tasks.

Being your own boss means you work till everything is completed.

No matter how long it takes.

That could mean you spend less time with friends and family.

And for some this is enough to quit life as an entrepreneur.
